The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced the establishment of new regulations concerning road safety and traffic management in the year 2025. The new regulations include: payment at toll plazas, speed limits on highways, and mandatory rules for vehicles. The alterations are aimed at reducing accidents as well as easing the hassle for passengers.
FASTag Is Now Even More Important
Moreover, FASTag is now compulsory. They will have to pay double the amount at the toll plaza to pay a fine at the end of ₹ 500 additionally if a vehicle lacks FASTag or has less amount in it. The purpose of the move is to avoid and reduce long lines and traffic jam at the toll plaza.
Now Speed Limits Will Be More Stringent For Highways
NHAI has put new rules regarding speed limits for various vehicles traveling on expressways throughout the country. Thus:
- Maximum speed limit for cars and bikes will be 120 km/h
- Max speed for trucks and buses would be 100 km/h
- Speed areas will be checked through CCTV and speed guns.
- A heavy fine will be imposed if any vehicle is found speeding.
There Will Be No Long Queues At Toll Plazas Now
NHAI has a plan of introducing GPS-Based Toll Collection (GNSS) system to improve the speed of payment at toll plazas. As per this new system, toll would be deducted automatically based on the distance traveled by the vehicles without stopping them. Currently, this system has been implemented for a few expressways on a trial basis.
Now Better Emergency Facility Will Be Available On Highway
NHAI has managed to launch a 24×7 emergency medical service to treat accidents on the highways for which, ambulances and trauma centres will now be present at an interval of every 50km coverage radius. Passengers will also get immediate assistance through the helpline number ‘1033.’
Final Thought
The new rules of NHAI are a great leap into making highways in India safer and amenable to passengers. The mandatory FASTag, stricter speed limits, and a new tolling system all pave the way for better traffic management. Vehicle owners should follow these rules to avoid complications.
